The Minamata Convention as others before it (like the Stockholm Convention on Persistant Organic Pollutants) is an important model for world wide environmental clean up of toxic materials, and will help to decrease the burden of other 'fellow traveler' industrial pollutants. This convention was developed as a type of instrument of the United Nations called a Multilateral Environmental Agreement (MEA.)
